Coral Essentials Activated Carbon is an ultra-high grade, bituminous carbon, in a handy 2L bucket. It is a virgin activated carbon in pelletised form, typical size 4-5mm diameter and 6-7mm long. Derived from bituminous coal, its high activity and extreme surface area (due to the activation manufacturing process) make it ideal for marine aquarium filtration applications.
For aquaria, carbon can be sourced from animal bones, peat, coconut shells, wood and bituminous or lignite coal. For filters, it’s generally accepted that carbon made from bituminous coal is far and away much superior. In fact, it’s the first choice for human drinking water purifiers the world over. Our Coral Essentials Activated Carbon is made purely from Bituminous coal and far superior to all other carbon.
Our activated carbon is excellent at removing organic chemicals from the water. The two chemicals that carbon excels at pulling from tanks are phenols and tannins. These are produced from a variety of sources, including the metabolic waste of fish and coral, the breakdown and decomposition of faeces, plants and uneaten food, and many more. It is also excellent at the removal of chlorine, chloramine and some heavy metals.
USAGE INSTRUCTIONS:
Low Filtration - Place 50ml in a reactor or filter bag for each 100L of aquarium water
Med Filtration - Place 100ml in a reactor or filter bag for each 100L of aquarium water
High Filtration - Place 150ml in a reactor or filter bag for each 100L of aquarium water

Door > Door deliveries are shipped via Star Track Premium Freight. Orders are shipped Monday and Tuesday. Leave a note on your order if you want it shipped on a preferred day. We reserve the right to delay shipping of orders until the following Monday / Tuesday if the day prior is a Public Holiday or if there are forecasted shipping delays such as weather, industry strikes etc.
We use premium specific packing methods necessary to ensure the safe arrival of your live coral. This includes heat / cold packs, extra water volume, frags are packed in sealed containers or bags dependent on coral size. Granular Activated Carbon is added to ensure optimal water quality during shipping. Frags and some more sensitive corals are mounted onto chemically inert closed cell foam floats, this removes the risk of coral tissue rubbing against the sides of the bag or container. All orders are shipped in thick walled Polystyrene thermally insulated eskies.
In the unlikely event of a DOA (Dead on Arrival), please send a very clear digital photo within 2 hours of delivery (Star Track delivered time). Once we receive the digital photo supporting your claim, we will issue a store credit. The store credit does not include the cost of shipping. We do not offer refunds, we only provide credit toward future coral purchase. Zeo Box Reef cannot be held responsible for mechanical, flight cancellations, unforeseen or weather delays that may cause your Star Track shipment to be delayed. We will always do our best to ensure customer satisfaction in these extremely rare cases. Please note If your area is estimated to take longer than 48 hours we recommend using our Airport to Airport shipping option. Feel free to send us a message if you are unsure.
We can hold coral orders for up to one week once payment has been received, unless other arrangements are agreed upon. Beyond that, we are not responsible for the coral, and cannot guarantee replacement of the same coral purchased. We are not responsible for incorrect addresses provided by the buyer. Please note it is the customers responsibility to monitor shipments once a tracking number has been provided.
